There were some early glimpses of how good John Konchar was going to be for IPFW this season early in the year, but like any freshman, it took time to have it come consistently.

This past week, the consistency gelled. Konchar rolled off two double-doubles for the Mastodons, and helped them get to 3-1 in the Summit League.

The first came Thursday when IPFW lost a tough game to South Dakota State. Konchar went 7-for-13 from the floor on his way to 22 points. He added 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, to go with two assists and two steals.

He followed that performance with 27 points against Nebraska-Omaha in 45 minutes during a 106-101 overtime victory. Konchar shot 78.6 percent from the floor, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. He added 12 rebounds, five assists and a steal in that one.

He just continues to pour it on in conference where he is shooting 70.7 percent on his 2-point attempts (2nd best in the league) and is 5-for-9 from behind the 3-point line. He is among the best shooters and rebounders, even though he is just 6-4.

For his performance this week, John Konchar is our Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week.

Also considered: Derick Newton, Stetson; Wyatt Walker, Samford.
