Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week: Marcel Pettway, Bryant Bulldogs

Marcel Pettway began NEC play in a big way against Central Connecticut State to earn our Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week.

Bryant has had a tough go of things this season, against a pretty brutal schedule. Entering the final week of the year, the Bulldogs were just 2-10, with only one win against a Division 1 team: Prairie View.

But things look brighter in the new year, given how well that final week, and the turn into 2016 went. Bryant finished the year with a 62-60 win over Dartmouth. In that game, Marcel Pettway scored six points, as he seldom found his way into the action. But he scored those six on 3-for-5 shooting, and added seven rebounds in the win.

As the Bulldogs entered conference play, Pettway came alive. The freshman scored 26 points on 11-for-17 shooting, and added five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block, as Bryant started 1-0 in the Northeast Conference with an 88-72 win over Central Connecticut State.

For his strong start to the year, Marcel Pettway is our Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week.
