Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week: Marcus Evans, Rice Owls

Marcus Evans got hot from the floor to lead Rice to two wins in a competitive CUSA, and take our Freshman of the Week award.

If you haven't been paying attention to Conference USA, you may have missed the fact that a single freshman has absolutely dominated the awards this season. Rice's Marcus Evans set a record with his eighth conference Freshman of the Week award this week, his fourth honor in a row.

But that is not why Evans has earned our Freshman of the Week award.

Evans was just dominant in his two games this week.

Against Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Evans scored 29 points, going 10-for-17 overall from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win.

He then went off for 30 points against Florida International, his second 30-point game of the season. Evans was even better in this game, shooting 64.7 percent from the floor, while grabbing five rebounds, adding three assists and nabbing six steals in the win. He is second in the league in steal percentage.

He is now 7th in Conference USA history in freshman scoring, and is one of just 12 freshman to score 500 points in a season in the league. His 20.5 points per game is best in the country for freshman scoring.

For all of that, Evans is our Mid-Major Madness Freshman of the Week.
